Man burglarizes apartment, touches face
Police are still searching for the burglar who woke up his victim by stroking her face before fleeing out the window with her laptop, cell phone and other personal items. This victim called the police to her apartment on E. 18th St. and High around 2:30 a.m. who determined that the window had been the initial point of entrance.
The suspect is a white male with a pale complexion, about six feet two inches tall; 220 lbs, a heavy build and brown hair. At the time he was reportedly wearing a dark jacket and dark pants.
After a search of the area, the woman’s items were found by a small fence nearby.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Eugene Police Department tip line at 541-682-8888. They also want to remind residents that windows and doors should have proper locking mechanisms and to keep property away from windows to help prevent this kind of incident.
Man charged with raping 16-year-old girl
A Eugene man was arraigned on Wednesday Nov. 9 on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of first-degree sodomy of a 16-year-old girl. He pleaded not guilty, and remains in custody at the Lane County Jail.
Timothy Jay Woosley, 46, allegedly had sex with the girl while she was drunk at his 17-year-old son’s Halloween party. After someone brought alcohol to the party, the girl became extremely intoxicated.
While the others left to go trick-or-treating, Woosley stayed behind with the girl. The other teens returned home and found Woosley having sex with the girl in one of the bedrooms.
He was arrested on Monday. His trial is set for Dec. 21.
75-year-old faces manslaughter charges after fatal crash
Late on Nov. 8, 75-year-old Eldridge McCoy Maready was driving the wrong way on I-105 when he crashed head-on into an oncoming car, killing the driver 53-year-old Gerald Taylor Brooks of Florence. Maready was taken to a nearby hospital after accident with non-life threatening injuries.
After being released from the hospital, Maready was arrested and transported to the Lane Country Jail on charges of second-degree manslaughter as a result of DUII.
Both vehicles rolled over as a result of the crash, landing on the their tops. Traffic lanes in both directs were closed for a few hours that night while crews rescued both drivers and cleaned up the damaged cars.
German Campus Week’s Banner Stolen from EMU
The German Embassy teamed up with the German Department this week in honor of German Campus Week, and part of the collaboration was the banner stating “Do Deutsche” hanging in the EMU, which was stolen overnight on Nov. 8. A police report was filed, but so far no information has been discovered as of this point.
The banner is property of the German government and is estimated to be worth around $500. It was supposed to inform students of the various Campus Week events, including a free concert on Monday Nov. 14 by one of Germany’s biggest bands “Madsen.”
The concert is at 5 p.m. and free for University students, with pre-registration required.
