Senate confirms new ombudsperson
Jason Selby is the new ASUO Senate ombudsperson after senate unanimously confirmed his nomination.
Newly elected senate president Max Burns nominated Selby to his former position at the last meeting. Ombudsperson has the responsibility of keeping track of voting during meetings and ensuring senators hold their office hours. Selby will hold his position until May 25.
Senate passed all special requests, spending $24,902 in total.
- Black Student Union granted $15,000 to host its annual Arts festival from May 8 to May 14. The event is open to public.
- Divisi is heading to a national competition in New York City to compete against A Cappella groups around the globe. This is the second time Divisi has competed at this level since 2005, group members said. Senate unanimously passed its request of $4,338 for flight and housing costs.
- Hawaii Club requested to transfer $1,745 within its budget to host its Spring Luau event on May 14.
- Multicultural Center requested to transfer $3,080.00 within its budget to cover costs of bringing Angela Davis to its event on April 11.
- Art Ducko comes back to senate for the second time to request $2,031 to cover printing costs of its fifth issue. Senator Morgan Snook said the magazine suffered from the low growth model, preventing it from receiving more funding from Program Finance Committee.
- Native American Student Union was granted $3,000 to cover transportation costs to bring elementary school kids from Portland, southern Oregon and Medford for its Youth Movement event on April 22.
- Student Mental Health Advocates requested to transfer $73 within its budget to its event, Stress Less Spring.
- The Public Relations Student Society of America requested to move $115 to Agency Tours.
- Vietnamese Student Association requested to transfer $119 to its culture night on April 17.
- MeCha requested to transfer within its budget $200 for the event “The Legacy of Cesar Chavez: Food Justice and Migrant Rights.”
- Veterans and Family Student Association requested to transfer $83 within its budget to cover monthly telephone costs.
- Black Women of Achievement was granted $400 to host its Ethnic Hair Care Day on May 12.
- Oregon Voice requested to transfer $320 within its budget to replace a broken computer.
