Oak Street Vintage, located on the corner of 14th and Oak, is a goldmine for mid-20th century design finds. The store has everything: furniture, housewares, jewelry and clothing. Owners Cora Frazer and Carl Ernst, who opened the shop in 2007, are longtime collectors of mid-century pieces.
“Although there were other antique shops and other vintage clothing shops in Eugene, there wasn’t somebody that concentrated on 50s through the 70s design,” Frazer said. “We really wanted to try and add something different to our town.”
For now, here are a few of Frazer’s favorite clothing and jewelry items they sell:
Necklace: “One of my favorite things is old Native American jewelry,” Frazer said. “I love looking at the craftsmanship behind the silver work, the different types of turquoise, and the different shades of blue…often [the turquoise] will have these natural lines through it so every piece is unique and different.”
Jacket: “I like the Pendleton jackets,” Frazer said. “They are a Northwest favorite, they just always have a classic, timeless look and they do their job, keeping you really warm and cozy in the winter.”
Dresses: “These [dresses] are handmade by Jennifer Stewart Designs and she does everything out of vintage fabric for us,” Frazer said. “Everything is unique and one-of-a-kind, and I like that it is clothing with a message.”
