The ASUO Senate approved a new spring concert on Oct. 4, following an ASUO Executive Branch request from surplus.
The $350,000 request will likely be the largest budget surplus request of the entire ASUO fiscal year; last year’s Spring Concert cost around $252,000.
This concert will be more expensive because, unlike last year’s spring concert, Downpour, it will have a second headlining act. It will take place at Cuthbert Amphitheater rather than Matthew Knight Arena.
The cost of the tickets has yet to be determined, though it will likely cost less than $10 in part due to negative feedback following the ticket prices of last year’s concert. The event will likely remain ticketed, however, as both a way to ensure the concert is financially sustainable and also to encourage students to attend.
The headlining artists are currently unknown as of yet; last year’s concert featured rapper Aminé as the headlining act. Student bands Mommy and Common Koi also opened for Aminé.
The event will happen May 10.
*Editor’s note: a previous version of this article stated that the budget for the 2022-2023 ASUO concert was $50k. A correction has been made to clarify the budget was $252k.
