University of Oregon’s Geri Ann Glasco and Cheridan Hawkins have earned Pac-12 softball honors for the week of Mar. 24-29.
Glasco was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the first time, while Cheridan Hawkins earned the conference’s Pitcher of the Week title for the second-straight week and the third time this season.
University of Utah’s Miranda Viramontes was named Freshman of the Week.
Glasco posted eight hits in 10 at-bats, scoring five runs and bringing in six more with four home runs and a double in the five games. Three of her four home runs were against the Washington Huskies on Sunday, matching the Ducks’ single-game record shared by two other players. Glasco had three multi-hit games, once in the doubleheader against Utah Valley University, then twice against University of Washington. The designated player also went 1-1 on the mound with 13 strikeouts in nine innings pitched, helping the Ducks go 4-1 during the week.
Hawkins threw her first-career perfect game — the first for the Ducks since 2013 — leading to the 8-0 sweep against the No. 19 Huskies on Friday. The junior put up three strikeouts and only 56 pitches in the five-inning win for Oregon. Hawkins returned to the starting position for the third game in the weekend series to pitch 4.2 innings, striking out six, to help improve the Ducks to 30-4 (8-1 Pac-12) on the season. She now has a 0.43 ERA on the year with 122 strikeouts in 97 innings.
Hawkins’ honor is the ninth of her career, which is tied for ninth-best in Pac-12 history. Oregon now has 55 weekly honors all-time.
The Ducks will play this weekend in a three-game series at UCLA that begins Friday, April 3.
