Before Pac-12 play began, Oregon head coach Mike White said the goal for his Ducks was to win every series and then hope for the best at the end.
That’s exactly what Oregon did on Sunday.
Led by a record-setting eight homeruns, the No. 2 Ducks trounced No. 19 Washington, 15-6 in five innings. With the win, Oregon won the series (2-1) with the Huskies to remain in first place in the conference.
Geri Ann Glasco hit three home runs in the game that resulted in four RBI’s while Hailey Decker added two home runs for five RBI’s.
Jenna Lilley, Janelle Lindvall and Nikki Udria each added home runs of their own for the Ducks.
Oregon got the scoring started in the first inning when Lilley hit a two-run bomb over the right-center field fence that scored Danica Mercado.
Before the Ducks exploded on offense, Glasco hit her first home run by leading off the second inning with a solo shot.
Oregon hit five home runs in a 10-run third inning.
Decker started the rally with a two-run blast before Glasco and Lindvall hit back-to-back bombs for the 8-0 lead. Udria added her homerun later in the inning before Decker came up again and hammered in the final nail. She hit a 1-1 pitch down the left field line for a three-run shot to give the Ducks a 13-0 lead.
The Huskies made it interesting in the top of the fourth with two runs but the Ducks’ offense answered quickly in the bottom half of the inning.
Glasco hit her final home run, a solo shot, before Mercado doubled home a run to account for Oregon’s 15 runs.
Washington added four runs in the top of the fifth inning but it wasn’t enough to keep playing.
Cheridan Hawkins recorded the win for the Ducks, pitching 4.2 innings and giving up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Karissa Hovinga replaced Hawkins to get the final out of the game but struggled mightily, allowing four runs on three hits.
Oregon returns to action on Friday when it faces No. 10 UCLA for a three-game series in Los Angeles, California. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
