Oregon softball pitcher Karissa Hovinga was named Pac-12 player of the week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Hovinga, the Ralston, Nebraska native, picked up the award for the first time in her career.
She tossed 5.1 innings of relief work for the Ducks on Saturday in a come-from-behind win against N0. 10 UCLA. Hovinga came in relief of Cheridan Hawkins in the second inning with the bases loaded and two outs and retired the first batter she saw to get the Ducks out of the inning.
Hovinga allowed three hits over the next five innings, holding the Bruins scoreless. The Ducks turned on the jets in the seventh inning, posting five runs to win 6-4. She improved to 8-1 on the year after earning the winning for Oregon.
She owns a 3.69 ERA on the season in 16 appearances for head coach Mike White, pitching 49.1 innings and allowing 58 hits.
The Ducks return to action Tuesday in Hillsboro, Oregon for a doubleheader against Portland State. This weekend, the Ducks will host Arizona State in a three-game series.
