As the stage crew unveiled the giant “X”-shaped DJ booth, the first note dropped through the 100,000-watt bass amplifiers built specifically for this tour. Excision@@http://www.excision.ca/@@ rocked a packed house at the McDonald Theatre@@http://mcdonaldtheatre.com/@@ on Monday night, the eighth of 51 stops on his 2012 North American “X Tour”
The crowd cheered as Jeff Abel,@@http://www.discogs.com/artist/Excision@@ better know by his stage name Excision, stepped onto the stage and cued up his first track.
“That first note made the hairs on my neck stand up,” University freshman Lee Dodds said. “It was an all-around incredible performance.”
Excision, out of British Columbia, Canada, draws inspiration from various disciplines, including the transforming bass lines of Drum & Bass, the aggressive vigor of metal and the building chorus lines of house; each helps to make Excision’s sound unique.
The custom stage and sound equipment, built by PK Sound,@@http://www.facebook.com/pksoundpage@@ also out of Canada, was the face of an awe-inspiring light show that complemented the music perfectly and helped further entrance the crowd. It was a complete package that fans come to expect from a heavy-hitting, dub-step artist like Excision.
“This was the most packed I’ve seen the McDonald in a long time,” sophomore Oliver Krant@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Krant@@ said. “I’m glad that I didn’t miss this one.”
Although no debris was shaken loose from the roof like at Excision’s Portland stop two nights prior, both the crowd and the McDonald Theatre trembled throughout the staggeringly impressive electro-light performance.@@boosh!@@
