After a year-and-a-half of construction, faculty and staff from the School of Journalism and Communication are moving from their temporary location in Agate Hall to the newly renovated Allen Hall that will be open for classes at the start of winter term.
“No offense to Agate Hall, but I’m happy to be moving back here,” said advertising professor David Koranda. @@http://www.uoregon.edu/findpeople/person/David*Koranda@@
Although many offices are still empty, more SOJC members are starting to trickle in to set up their new offices. Koranda started transitioning from Agate to Allen when boxes were brought to his new office on Monday, followed by furniture on Wednesday. Koranda says he was excited to turn his Agate Hall keys in to Public Services.
By next Monday, Agate Hall will be empty — this means that many professors will have to balance grading final papers and projects with moving even though there is technically no official deadline to be completely moved into Allen.
“I think that students and faculty will be happy to be hanging around here,” said Koranda. “The whole thing is laid out well as far as places people can gather and talk.”
Koranda expressed his gratitude to the donors who contributed to the renovation. The project was funded by $7.5 million in private donations and a $7.5 million state bond.
The SOJC will also hold a ceremony for the building’s grand opening on March 1 at 1 p.m.
