There appears to be a big problem here at the University. That is parking, or should I say the lack of it. Every year as new buildings go up, there is less parking for students and staff. It has been rumored that in the near future Columbia Street will be closed. I’ve counted at least 86 parking spots that would be eliminated. There is no mention of the parking that will be lost with a new athletic learning center and alumni building on the parking lot at 13th Avenue and Agate Street. There is talk of underground parking, but would you feel safe using a facility like that? Has the U of O asked students and staff about this? It was rumored that our parking permit (which is really a hunting permit) fees were raised in order to create a parking structure fund. So where is the structure? Better yet, where are the funds? It just seems to me that the U of O couldn’t care less about the parking and is more concerned with showing off their nice new buildings.
