During its semiannual visit to the University, the Oregon State Board of Higher Education primarily addressed increased institutional access, retention for Oregon students, and research and workforce initiatives in Portland.
The big news at the meeting was Oregon University System Chancellor George Pernsteiner’s announcement that the state revenue forecast, announced Friday, is $183.1 million lower than the initial projection. The loss will undoubtedly affect OUS, but the extent to which it will do so remains unclear.
Dalton Miller-Jones also presented an update on OpportunityOregon proposals, which aim to increases the number of Oregon students academically prepared for college and improve retention rates, particularly among under-represented students. The OpportunityOregon committee will continue developing its proposals and plans to present its legislative budget proposals for the 2009-11 legislative session.
