Oregon football coach Mike Bellotti accepted a five-year extension to his current contract, the University announced Monday.
The extension is part of a rollover clause that was added to Bellotti’s contract four years ago.
Bellotti’s annual University salary will remain at $150,000 and his guaranteed base contract will continue to be $650,000. His total salary, including incentives, such as for winning the BCS Championship and a portion of ticket sales, is estimated at $1.1 million.
The extenuation comes after what’s considered to be a disappointing season for Oregon football. The team finished the season losing to Brigham Young University 38-8 in the Las Vegas Bowl, ending the season with four consecutive losses and a record of 7-6.
Still, Bellotti has guided the Ducks to 10 bowls in his 12 seasons as coach and owns a 97-46 record in the Pacific-10 Conference.
Oregon’s athletic director Bill Moos said that extension will provide the football program with continued stability.
Bellotti has been considered for the athletic director position once Moos steps down in March, but Bellotti has said that he’ll only consider becoming athletic director if he was no longer the football coach.
The football team is also searching for a new offensive coordinator to replace Gary Crowton, who left for the same job at Louisiana State University.
