The deadline for submitting proposals on how to spend more than $700,000 in over-realized incidental fee money has come and gone.
The Student Senate appropriations committee responsible for deciding how to spend the funds has begun the process of selecting the best proposals.
Committee members met Sunday night to discuss the best way to narrow down the suggestions.
As of 6 p.m. Sunday (the deadline for submissions was midnight), the committee had received 28 proposals. Thirty-five more proposals written as class projects for six business administration classes are due Monday and Tuesday.
“I’m really impressed to see the amount of proposals and the quality,” Sen. Jacob Daniels said. “The students and departments have really shown their commitment to helping their programs.”
The proposals submitted so far range from a few hundred dollars for various program events to hundreds of thousands for building improvements. Several are for environmentally-friendly purchases such as biodiesel vans or a solar hot water heating system.
“People have really innovative ideas,” Daniels said. “It’s pretty cool to see so many people using this to improve the campus.”
Daniels said the proposals will be in a binder in the ASUO office by the end of this week and students are welcome to come look through them. He said that students should e-mail him at [email protected] if they look in the binder and do not see their proposals but can prove they were submitted on time.
