Oregon’s schedule for women’s basketball was announced Monday, and it features more than a few challenges for what will be a young team under coach Bev Smith.
After opening against San Jose State and South Dakota State, Oregon will host Marquette. The Golden Eagles finished last season ranked No. 21 in the nation after bowing out of the NCAA Tournament in the second round.
The Ducks then play over Thanksgiving weekend at the New Mexico Tournament before hosting Long Beach State in Eugene and Portland in Portland. Their biggest challenge may lie on Dec. 12, when Oregon visits 2005 National Champion Baylor. They finish their non-conference schedule with two games at the Caribbean Classic December 18-19 in Cancun, Mexico.
“This year our non-conference schedule will not only prepare us for the always competitive Pacific-10 race, but will also provide our Duck fans with a chance to get to see some entertaining basketball as we welcome a ‘young new team with the same dream’ to Mac Court for the 2007-08 season,” Smith said.
