It’s fall again, and that means box offices will soon be full of Oscar hopefuls and Thanksgiving blockbusters. Here’s just a sampling of what you have to look forward to this season:
This psychedelic musical takes place in the ’60s and is set entirely to Beatles music. And the songs have been redone for the film, which means that even non-Beatles fans may be able to appreciate the music. And yes, the main characters’ names are Jude and Lucy.
Dane Cook continues his quest to dominate the romantic comedy genre with “Good Luck Chuck,” also starring “it” girl Jessica Alba. This one, however, looks to be actually funny, because Jessica Alba is cast against type as a clumsy bad-luck charm opposite Dane’s good-luck charm Chuck.
Jennifer Garner and Jamie Foxx star in this thriller, about an FBI team sent into the Middle East to investigate the bombing of an American facility. The Middle East is a hot topic today, so audience numbers for this film will show if Americans are ready for such an intensely political thriller.
Based on the graphic novel by Steve Niles, “30 Days of Night” pits vampires against humans in an interesting new arena: the Arctic Circle, where darkness lasts – you guessed it – 30 days. This refreshing take on the vampire flick could reinvigorate the genre.
Yes, there’s another “Saw” movie, and one has to wonder how long it will be before no one cares anymore. Nonetheless, the “Saw” series has proven to be fairly successful, and this installment will likely do the same.
The epic poem finally makes it to the big screen as a motion-capture action film created in the same way as “The Polar Express.” If the trailer is any indication, the film is full of beautiful imagery, tense action and, of course, Angelina Jolie as Grendel’s mom.
The movie with the ridiculous title is a fantastical tale of a 243-year-old toy store owner (played by Dustin Hoffman) who is preparing to retire and hand his store over to his manager, Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman). It’s like “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” combined with every kid’s wildest dream.
Timothy Olyphant stars in “Hitman,” an action flick based on the popular video game of the same name. One can only hope this film will break the curse and we can finally see a movie based on a video game that isn’t terrible.
Disney steps out of the ’60s and into modern life with “Enchanted,” a real-life fairy tale about a fairytale princess who is thrust into all-too-real New York City. It’s a tongue-in-cheek mixture of comedy, romance and fantasy that should prove popular with both kids who love fairy tales and adults who would like to see them survive in our world.
