Oregon soccer was defeated by former national champions, as well as seventh-ranked USC, Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles. The loss extends the Ducks’ conference losing record to 0-3-0, placing them at 10th in the Pac-12 Women’s soccer standings.
Despite the matches eventual outcome, it was Oregon that drew first blood with true Freshman Chardonnay Curran’s goal in the 12th minute. This marking Curran’s first collegiate score, helping the Ducks in claiming an early lead.
The goal was played in by Oregon sophomore forward, Jessica Yu. Just 12 minutes into the game Yu connected with Curran after recognizing USC’s goalkeeper, Kaylie Collins, slowly inched out of goal. Following the pass from Yu, Curran placed the ball in the far right post to tally her first collegiate score.
Halla Hinriksdottir and Kaitlynn Carter would combine for a total of six saves, both responsible for three of their own after Hinriksdottir left the match due to injury.
The game took a drastic turn in a matter of three minutes, starting with the Trojans’ first goal by way of head from Nicole Molen in the 81st minute. Leah Pruitt issued the assist from the left side, helping Molen convert on the header and earn her second goal this season. The Trojans would score just two minutes later, this time by freshman Tara Mckeown on a one-touch shot. This goal increases Mckeown’s season goal tally to three.
The Trojans’ record extends to 8-1-1 on the year.
The Ducks will seek out the team’s first conference win in its next match against Washington State on Thursday, Oct. 5 in Eugene at 4 p.m. PT.
