The IAAF World Athletic Championships in London wrapped up on Sunday with the women’s and men’s 4×400-meter relays. The women’s event featured former Duck Phyllis Francis, who anchored the United States three minute, 19.02 second-winning run, beating second-place Great Britain by six seconds.
That gold medal was Francis’ second of the 10-day event after she won the 400-meter.
On Thursday, Deajah Stevens highlighted the day for former Ducks, qualified for the 200-meter final with a second-place 22.71-second run in the semifinal, and finished fifth in the final. She placed eighth a year ago in Rio.
On Sunday, Johnny Gregorek finished 10th in the 1,500-meter final and was the only former Duck in the race, which came as a surprise after former Duck and 2016 Rio Olympics 1,500 gold medalist Matthew Centrowitz came last place in his heat on Thursday. After the race, he told NBC that illness and injuries has made this year difficult.
Neither Ariana Washington nor Stevens ran in the U.S. 4×100-meter gold medal-winning race on Saturday, but Washington aided them in their qualification for the final earlier in the day. Even though she was replaced by Tori Bowie in the final, Washington was given a gold medal for her part in the 4×100 team’s success.
