GRAPHIC DESIGNER
The graphic designer will design computer graphics and paginate pages for publication in the newspaper, and will be specifically expected to:
— Become extremely familiar with the operation of computer design tools, including QuarkXpress, Aldus Freehand and Adobe Photoshop.
— Produce graphic tags, pictures and infographics at the request of the news desks.
— Type in information for graphics, as required.
— Keep track of all graphics in the works, making sure they are finished in time for publication and contain no inaccuracies or errors of grammar, spelling, or style.
— Work with the graphics editor and other staff members to develop
innovative graphic-oriented projects.
— Search clip art files when needed.
— Have an understanding of newspaper design and be able to design pages.
— Keep regular office hours.
— Attend required staff meetings and occasional desk meetings.
— Set individual goals each term to improve your journalistic skills.
Requirements: Must be enrolled as a student at the University of Oregon when the position begins. Must be able to work about 15 hours a week, mostly in the evening.
