With three of the preseason Heisman Trophy favorites — Florida’s Rex Grossman, Michigan State’s Charles Rogers and Oregon’s own Onterrio Smith — having fallen from the weekly tallies, it may seem like the trophy is going to land in the hands of Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey or Miami running back Willis McGahee.
Contrary to this belief, there are many other candidates, and the trophy is still up for grabs. Here is an overview of those who still have the Heisman within their reach.
Ken Dorsey — Senior QB, Miami
Last week, Dorsey and the Miami Hurricanes beat Tennessee 26-3. Dorsey threw 18 complete passes of 35 attempts, for 245 yards and one touchdown.
Dorsey is 152-of-297, for 2,265 yards on the season. He has thrown 21 touchdown passes and eight interceptions.
Miami hosts Pittsburgh on Nov. 21.
Willis McGahee — Sophomore RB, Miami
McGahee had 30 carries for 154 yards and one touchdown in Miami’s win over Tennessee.
McGahee has 190 carries for 1,188 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season.

Brad Banks — Senior QB, Iowa
Banks and the Hawkeyes beat Northwestern 62-10 last week. Banks threw 10 complete passes on 10 attempts, for 197 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 54 yards and two touchdowns.
Banks is 146-of-241 for 2,269 yards on the season. He has thrown 23 touchdown passes and four interceptions.
Iowa travels to Minnesota on
Saturday.
Chris Brown — Junior RB, Colorado
Brown and the Buffaloes beat Missouri in overtime 42-35 last week. Brown had 35 carries for 211 yards and three touchdowns.
Brown has 251 carries for 1,616 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season.
Colorado hosts Iowa State on Saturday.
Jason Gesser — Senior QB, Washington State
Gesser and the Cougars beat Oregon 32-21 last week. Gesser threw 20 complete passes on 38 attempts, for 277 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.
Gesser is 190-of-320 for 2,696 yards on the season. He has thrown 24 touchdown passes and eight interceptions.
Washington State hosts Washington on
Nov. 23.
Carson Palmer — Senior QB, USC
Palmer and the Trojans beat Stanford 49-17 last week. Palmer threw 22 complete passes on 33 attempts for 317 yards and four touchdowns.
Palmer is 217-of-347 for 2,746 yards on the season. He has thrown 22 touchdown passes and eight interceptions.
USC hosts Arizona State on Saturday.
