SALEM (AP)—The Supreme Court will rule today on whether three newspaper oganizations can file briefs in behalf of Emerald Managing Editor Annette Buchanan.
Miss Buchanan is appealing a $300 fine for contempt. She refused to disclose the sources for an Emerald storya bout use of marijuana on campus.
The Oregon newspaper publishers filed the request Thursday. Requests already had been filed in the American Society of Newspaper Editors and Sigma Delta Chi, professional journalism fraternity.
The organizations want to support her claim that her free press right was violated when she was ordered to disclose sources.
