Oregon Daily Emerald: How did the NFL combine and Oregon pro day go for you?
Geoff Schwartz: It went really well. I did really good at the combine and then came back here for pro day and ran a 5.1 (second) 40 (yard dash) and improved on pretty much everything from the combine, so I was pretty stoked about that.
ODE: What kind of feedback have you gotten from the teams you’ve worked out for?
Schwartz: I’ve been getting good feedback. It’s tough to really know what a team is thinking. They kind of tell you but you never really know until draft day, but yeah I’ve heard some good things. I think I’ve moved up a little bit so I’m pretty happy.
ODE: Is there a particular NFL team you are a fan of?
Schwartz: I’ve always liked the 49ers, that’s who I grew up watching so it would be great to go there, but I don’t really care I’ll go anywhere.
ODE: What have you been hearing as far as when you might be drafted?
Schwartz: I’ll be a four-to-six (round), mid-round guy, and there’s nothing wrong with that. That’s moving up from probably seventh round or free agent, which is probably where I was before the combine.
ODE: So you’re pretty confident that you’ll get a shot to make an NFL roster then.
Schwartz: Oh yeah, I’ll get a shot, and I’ll just try and do the best I can with it.
ODE: What are your days like right now?
Schwartz: I work out about two hours a day and just hang out the rest of the time.
ODE: How is it watching spring practice instead of being out there?
Schwartz: It’s great. It’s so fun. These guys are the guys I came in with so it’s fun to just make fun of them. I really don’t miss it to much though. I thought I would, but I probably don’t because I have mini camp in three weeks so I’ll be ready to go for that.
NFL.com overview on Schwartz
Massive man whose size and upper body strength make him an imposing drive blocker, but with only marginal foot quickness and balance Schwartz is a liability in pass protection. He struggled with a back injury throughout his junior season and his play improved when healthy as a senior. However, struggles throughout the week of practice at the East-West Shrine Game and during the game will push him down the board.
