The Out/Loud queer women’s music
festival is back this year at the WOW Hall.
Out/Loud is a student-driven festival for queer women’s music, artists and performers. It has come a long way since the early 2000s, when it was began as a sort of “lesbapalooza” and even from more recently when it took place on the EMU lawn. This year it is being emceed by the popular lesbian
columnist duo Lipstick & Dipstick.
The festival will start off with local favorites the Drama Kings this Friday, May 16th, at 7:30. They will perform a gender fluid performance. The night will continue with jazz and funk singer Crys Mathews. The 26-year-old singer from North Carolina cites gospel music as a major influence in her eclectic style.
The event will also feature spoken word performer Andrea Gibson, who describes herself as a queer poet and an activist. The night closes with performances by performance artists and slam poets Siche and Dakota, and folk musician Chris Pureka.
The second night of the festival is on Saturday, May 17th. The event will again feature Siche and Dakota, as well as the band Lipstick Conspiracy, which will play ’80s hits and was named Girl Band of the Year by a San Francisco publication. Seattle-based Team Gina will then take to the stage with its synchronized dance moves and hip beats. The night will close with a performance by comedy burlesque trio the Von Foxies.
There will also be an official fundraising after party on Friday, May 16th at Club Snafu featuring DJ 800 Pound Sound. The event is free, although a donation at the door
is appreciated.
Student tickets are $5 while general admission will be $7. Tickets will be available at the UO Ticket Office and at the ASUO Women’s Center.
This year’s Out/Loud festival will feature music, comedy and spoken word artists
