Oregon Daily Emerald: How would you characterize the first part of your first season in the lineup?
Jenn Salling: It’s gone well. I think that I’ve understood my role. I think that’s why it’s showing stat-wise. Coach told me at the beginning of the season what my role was in the batting lineup and I think it’s paying off. I’ve worked hard and it’s showing.
ODE: What was your greatest athletic thrill?
Salling: This past summer when we were in China (Salling was a member of the Canadian National Team) for (The World Championships), in extra innings with Italy, I ended up scoring the winning run.
ODE: What is your favorite television show?
Salling: The Hills and America’s Next Top Model.
ODE: What’s the best prank by a teammate?
Salling: With the freshman last year at the airport, the seniors used to get zip ties and would tie two freshmen’s backpacks together.
ODE: Could you hit a home run off of Oregon coach Kathy Arendsen, a former pitcher?
Salling: Of course, yeah. I’ve never seen her pitch but…
ODE: She was a stud.
Salling: Yeah, she was a stud.
ODE: You are more of a stud, is that what you’re saying?
Salling: I think anyone can hit anyone on any given day.
ODE: Good answer.
ODE: What’s the best thing about Canada?
Salling: The legal drinking age is 19 (laughs). No. I guess I like how it’s really relaxed there, a lot more laid back than it is here. Everyone’s calm and just kind of chill.
