University President Dave Frohnmayer took a spill Sunday while skiing with his wife at Mt. Bachelor resort, and underwent corrective surgery for the injury Wednesday.
“My knee went one way and the ski went the other,” he said.
Frohnmayer broke the bone just below the knee cap and will be “physically challenged” for the next six to eight weeks. He will return to work Monday and until then will continue working from home, doing things like conference calls and e-mail work.
“It’s really pretty seamless,” he said. “We aren’t stopped by this.” Frohnmayer’s crutches are keeping him from full mobility, but he said he feels good overall.
Frohnmayer’s doctor said he will be skiing again next season, and the president isn’t worrying too much about the injury. He’s keeping it in perspective.
“Even navigating things like stairs makes you appreciate the things that people with disabilities have to go through on a permanent basis,” he said. “So this is not the kind of thing you complain about.”
