The Oregon men’s tennis team split a pair of duals over the weekend in California.
With Ric Mortera back in the lineup, the Ducks beat the Pacific Tigers 6-1 on Friday afternoon.
Mortera and Stephen Wiechert defeated Vegerd Verskimagi and Ahad Ebrahim 8-2 at the No. 3 doubles position.
A win from Marco Verdasco and Francisco Gallardo at No. 2 doubles secured the doubles point for the Ducks. Verdasco was the only Duck to lose in singles. He lost 6-2, 6-2 to Mortiz Starke.
On Saturday, Santa Clara put an end to Geoff Embry’s eight-match winning streak when he lost 6-1, 6-4 to the Broncos’ Bobby Rasmussen at the No. 5 singles position.
In their 5-2 defeat to the Broncos, the Ducks lost the doubles point right off the bat.
In singles, Verdasco’s three set 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over Jan Macek and Mike Myrhed’s 7-6, 6-7, (6) win over Robert Gallman were the only singles matches that the Ducks managed to win.
Sophomore Gustavo Loza saw his first action of the year in both singles and doubles.
Loza and Mortera lost 8-1 to Gallman and Brian Brogan in doubles, then suffered a 6-0, 6-1 defeat to Tommy Hicks at the No. 6 singles spot.
