The Eugene Emeralds and Spokane Indians Monday game ended up being a near reversal of Sunday night’s game. This time it was Spokane finding runs late in the game for the 2-1 win.
The Indians, who were held scoreless until the ninth inning, scored a pair of runs to win the game in the ninth inning. The inning started off well with a strikeout, but then a single and a walk put the Indians in business to, at minimum, tie the game. In the next at-bat, the Emeralds assisted in the comeback attempt, when Tyler Ratliff reached on a fielding error by Jhonny Bethencourt and tied the game. Following another walk, Clayton Middleton brought in what ended up being the winning run on a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Emeralds were the team to score early, taking a one run lead in the fourth inning.
Brandon Hughes led the inning with a single to center field, then in the next at bat he stole second base. He then advanced to third base on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Ratliff. Ramsey Romano hit a groundout to first, and in the process, Hughes ran home for the score.
That was all the scoring this game had until the ninth inning. Both pitching staff’s put together impressive performances.
For the Emeralds, starter Alex Lange pitched three innings, and Camargo pitched five innings of relief. Each surrendered just one hit to the Indians. Brian Glowicki was charged with the blown save and the loss after surrendering the winning runs in the ninth.
Indians starter Tyler Phillips held the Emeralds to four hits, struck out eight batters and surrendered one earned run in eight innings of work. Noah Bremer entered the game in the ninth and closed the door on the Emeralds chances of sending the game to extra innings for the second consecutive night.
Spokane and Eugene wrap up their five-game series Tuesday night at 7:05 pm at PK Park.
