University Provost Jim Bean named alumnus Cornelis “Kees” de Kluyver as the next Lundquist College of Business dean. De Kluyver will take over the position September 1.
The current business school dean, Dennis Howard, was appointed to the position in 2008 on a two-year contract. Howard will continue to serve as dean until de Kluyver’s arrival.
De Kluyver, who was born in the Netherlands, received his bachelor’s degree in marketing and a Master of Business Administration from the University. He served as dean of the George Mason University School of Business Administration and as dean of the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University.
“Kees de Kluyver is uniquely qualified to guide the Lundquist College of Business into a future of promise and opportunity,” Bean said, who was dean of the business school before becoming provost, in a press release. “He has proven his leadership abilities while serving as the dean of business schools … and in a highly successful career in business. He also has a deep appreciation for the University.”
De Kluyver is an expert in global strategy and corporate governance and has written four books.
“My career has been shaped in significant ways by the education I received at the University of Oregon, and I am delighted to be returning to the campus that gave me my academic values,” de Kluyver said in the press release. “I believe my experience as a dean and as a global consultant will help me create a shared vision for the continued expansion of the college’s links to the Pacific Rim, and for building on Lundquist’s reputation in such areas as entrepreneurship and innovation, sustainability, sports business and securities analysis.”
