This is in response to the disingenuous letter (“Rousseau and Arora best choice for a united campus,” ODE, April 7) which sought to pigeonhole Reality Check candidates into
one ideology.
Reality Check is not about one ideology; Reality Check comprises students from all aspects of campus who are tired of the ASUO being controlled by insiders. The authors of that letter are all members within the ASUO who have a vested interest in preserving the status quo — an ASUO that advocates for their special interest and not the
interests of all students.
The Reality Check campaign is not just composed of Greek Life; we have members of Designated Driver Shuttle, KWVA, the Warsaw Sports Business club, the Belegarth Medieval Combat Society, the American Marketing Association, Order of Omega and more. Reality Check is sick and tired of the ASUO being controlled by the same few campus groups, which are reflected in that letter.
The only group or ideology Reality Check wishes to serve is the average student. Many students reading yesterday’s attack may not have recognized those names, but I sure did. And, be sure, you should have only read one thing after each name — and that is ASUO political insider. It is for these reasons we must reject the status quo in the ASUO of elite insiders controlling their process to benefit their own interests. It is time for a change, and Amelie and the independents who now have a slate because it was politically viable, and Maneesh, Mr. OSPIRG himself, will not bring it.
They assert that Reality Check is of one ideology. The only ideology that unites Reality Check is a desire to have students run the ASUO. Our candidates represent more than 50 different groups and are from all walks of life. The one area where the candidates are all alike is in the fact they are attuned to the needs of the average student. This is why it is essential we elect them. They have no preconceived notions of how the ASUO should work and will advocate for reasonable solutions to some of our biggest problems.
When I met the candidates for Reality Check, as an ASUO senator ready to give them my advice, I found they did not need it. They were bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and ready to shake things up because it was time, they said, that someone stand up and fix large issues at the University. When you vote today, know that your vote matters and that there are eight candidates left who need your help to stop what’s wrong
in the ASUO.
