The University will not paint a new logo on the ASUO’s window this week, student Sen. Nick Gower said.
The ASUO’s old logo was removed from the office April 19 after what was characterized as a miscommunication between the student government’s spokesperson and the University’s sign painter.
The painter said he planned to paint a new logo on the window by Monday.
“I called him and let him know and there’s no new logo going to be painted on the window,” Gower said of a conversation between himself and the painter.
The removal of the sign will still be billed to the ASUO, but it is unclear how much it will cost. Sign painter Mike Timshel, who removed it, charges $40 per hour. He could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Not having the logo replaced will save the ASUO the money it would have cost to paint it.
ASUO leaders intended to have a new logo for the student government long before spring term this year, but the creation of the logo has been held up because it must be approved by the EMU Board of Directors’ House Committee. Members of the House Committee objected to the logo, saying the process through which it was created was not inclusive enough.
The ASUO has put up a temporary replacement for the sign in the window. It’s made of cardboard with the words written in red marker.
