University students have raised at least $6,500 for victims of the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti selling T-shirts.
There are two different student organizations that have sold shirts whose proceeds go to benefit Haiti.
One shirt, which says “4 Haiti” inside of a red cross to symbolize aid was designed by University student Marcus Harvey and is sold at the University’s Duck Store. University student Greg Mills helped market the idea to the Duck Store.
Harvey, said more than 400 have been sold, for a total of more than $5,500 raised.
Harvey aid the Duck Store has ordered another shipment of the shirts, which the women’s basketball team wore during a warm-up for its game against Oregon State University last Saturday.
The other shirt, created by the University’s Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán reads “Todos somos Haiti” (“We are all Haiti”). Its creation was funded through the University administration, the ASUO, and two student groups.
University student organizer Lidiana Soto said the shirt has raised $924 so far.
