Ahead of Friday’s Civil War, Oregon football has plenty of work to do in the shortened week.
With less time to prepare than normal, the Ducks have altered their schedule. But that shift hasn’t affected the team too much.
“It’s a little bit front loaded,” offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo said. “You go straight out of a game on Saturday and your Sunday’s a Monday and you’re right back on it.”
The Ducks’ victory on Saturday nearly went south late in the game when Arizona State fought back and was a two-point conversion away from sending the game to overtime. Oregon is doing all it can to focus on playing the full game and avoiding another lapse in focus.
“It’s hard to be really successful when you’re out of rhythm,” Arroyo said. “We were out of rhythm in the second half at home.”
Wide receiver Dillon Mitchell is 10 receptions away from breaking the Oregon single season receptions record (77) and 36 yards away from breaking the single season receiving yards record (1,140).
“Dillon’s done a really nice job,” Arroyo said. “Dillon does some special things. He’s ultra-competitive.”
Mitchell could break these records against the Beavers, but the wide out’s only game with 10 catches or more came against Stanford (14 catches). Quarterback Justin Herbert is aware of the record.
“I think it would be really cool for him,” Herbert said. “He’s a guy who has worked so hard and it’s very telling of the work he’s put in this year. I think it would be really special for him.”
