For the first time this year, a regularly scheduled ASUO Senate meeting was canceled, because the senators had no new business to discuss.
ASUO Senate President Zachary Stark-MacMillan’s two-line email detailed as much to the Senate, media and senators-elect.@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Zachary+Stark-MacMillan@@
“There were no special requests or any other business to attend to,” Stark-MacMillan wrote.
Sen. Max Barkley was glad for the time the senators would be spending outside of Senate, because the meeting was not needed.@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Max+Barkley@@
“I feel like the Senate — as a body of 20 individuals — will be more effective outside of Senate, because we really don’t have any business,” Barkley said.
Sen. Laura Hinman wouldn’t be able to attend if there was a meeting anyway, as she is currently out of the state. She also commented on the low status of the Senate’s surplus fund — approximately $40,000 — that they use at every meeting for every group that comes calling for money.@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/telecom/directory.jsp?p=findpeople%2Ffind_results&m=student&d=person&b=name&s=Laura+Hinman@@
“I’m glad that we’re not holding a meeting if it’s not necessary,” Hinman said. “It’s probably good because we don’t have any money left.”
