The Ducks’ nine-match winning streak ended Sunday.  No. 25 Arizona State downed No. 30 Oregon women’s tennis, 4-3.
The loss was Oregon’s first in conference play, and puts the Ducks’ record at 11-3, 3-1 Pac-12.
A 6-1 win over Arizona on Friday left Oregon with high hopes for its match against ASU Sunday, but the Ducks failed to secure the doubles point and the rest of the match crumbled with it.
After the Sun Devils took the doubles point, they quickly secure the first singles win on No. 3 before Oregon’s Alyssa Tobita defeated No. 54 Kassidy Jump 7-5, 6-4. The win earned Oregon its first point of the day and kept the Ducks in the game, 2-1.
ASU fought back with two more singles play wins to earn the lead and victory 4-1, but play continued on the remaining courts where the Ducks battled on.
In the second to last match in session, Marlou Kluiving notched a win followed by Shweta Sangwan who won her third set tie breaker 10-5 to earn the Ducks the final points of the day.
Even though the tie-breaking win was enough for Sangwan, Oregon finished the match 3-4 behind ASU in its first loss of Pac-12 play.
Next weekend, the team heads to Los Angeles to take on USC and UCLA for its fifth and six matches of conference play.
