When students think of the apartments by Autzen Stadium, they often imagine a place where Mardi Gras is eternal; a place where residence hall life and the real world combine to create a reality where the center of the universe is a bright, shiny keg. They might also imagine these apartments to be a place where a student lives if he or she wants to neglect academic duties. However, imaginations can often be wrong.
There are two apartment complexes in the Autzen Stadium vicinity that don’t cater to the stereotypes of rowdy college apartment living. These complexes are McKenna Estates and Chase Village.
The location of these complexes is ideal for students. The Lane Transit District bus system provides easy access to and from campus every half-hour from 7:30 a.m. to 6:22 p.m.
Autzen Stadium and the University are within walking distance, a blessing to anyone who has attempted to park close to the stadium during game day or tried to find a parking spot on campus before a midday class.
McKenna Estates boasts the largest units of all the apartments near Autzen Stadium. For a one-bedroom apartment, the square footage is 850 sq. ft., while a two-bedroom deluxe is 1,250 sq. ft., and a two-bedroom executive
is 1,400 sq. ft.
“Our units are a lot bigger than most of
the other apartments around here per
square footage; we’re the best pretty much in town,” said Doris Gale, the manager of McKenna Estates.
McKenna Estates also ensures that the complex is quiet during the night so tenants can study or sleep peacefully.
“I have quiet hour, so from 10 at night to eight o’clock in the morning is quiet hour,” Gale said.
COSTS and SQUARE FOOTAGE McKenna Estates 1 bedroom: $650, 850 ft. 2 bedroom deluxe: $795, 1,250 ft. 2 bedroom executive: $850, 1,400 ft. Chase Village 1 bedroom $640-$750, 768 ft. 2 bedroom $750-$870, 1,025 ft. 3 bedroom $1,140-$1,200, 1,245 ft. |
The apartments have laundry hookups, extended cable television, air conditioning, a gas fireplace, a balcony and covered parking. Water, sewer and garbage are included
with the rent, which is $650 for a one-
bedroom apartment, $795 for a two-bedroom deluxe apartment and $850 for a two-
bedroom Executive The apartments also
have several amenities such as a basketball court, an exercise room, a community room and tennis courts.
Traditionally, McKenna Estates is not known for its student life but rather for
family life.
“We don’t have four tenants who are
17 years old. This place is more for grad students and families,” said Joshua Lucas, a University graduate student in physics and mathematics.
Chase Village was built on a garden owned by the Chase family, who used to grow various strains of roses. The family’s original home is used as the clubhouse.
Chase offers many services and amenities for its tenants. Some notable services include the 24-hour, free lockout service and free auto service. It also has free tanning, two pools, two spas, a hair salon, a sand volleyball court, a basketball court, 24-hour workout facilities, and a car wash and air station.
The apartments are a nice fit for University students looking to complement their college experience by living in a place that provides a comfortable living style.
“We treat the students who live here with respect,” said Kimberly Edmonds, a leasing consultant at Chase Village. “We also have little noise at the apartments.”
