No. 43 Oregon came within a single point of clinching the match against No. 53 Pepperdine (3-0) on Saturday, but the Waves came back and won four singles matches in a row to take down the Ducks 4-3.
Oregon’s Cormac Clissold and Daan Maasland, in their first doubles match of the season together in the No. 2 position, defeated Pepperdine’s Stefan Menichella and Tom Hill, 6-3.
Pepperdine brought the day to a 1-1 tie on court one, following a win by Guilherme Hadlich and Rakshay Thakkar over Oregon’s Kevin Farin and Jayson Amos, 6-3. The Ducks locked up the doubles point when the No. 3 duo of Simon Stevens and Daniel Sardu defeated Lautaro Pane and Pedro Iamachkine, 6-4.
The Ducks started ahead singles, after Stevens beat the Waves’ Hill 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, and Sardu managed at 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win. Pepperdine went on to win the next four matches and ultimately the day.
Oregon will compete again in two days at UC Santa Barbara on Monday, March 2 at 1 p.m.
