You can officially call it a hot streak.
Less than a week removed from an impressive three-game sweep over No. 14 Arizona State, the Oregon baseball team put together another impressive outing on Friday to defeat No. 5 UCLA (20-7, 7-4 Pac-12) by a score of 8-3 on the road and clinch its second straight Pac-12 series win.
Oregon (20-8, 8-3 Pac-12) was paced by starter Jake Reed, who gave up three runs in six innings to earn his third win of the season. The freshman had plenty of help at the plate, as the Ducks took a 2-1 lead early before breaking the game open with four runs in the fifth inning. A two-run home run by center fielder Connor Hofmann in the sixth inning pushed the margin to 8-1, giving Reed and reliever Joey Housey more than enough room to come away with the victory. Housey threw three shutout innings to close the game out.
In all, the Ducks totaled 11 hits on the night, including three from left fielder Brett Thomas. Hofmann and first baseman Ryon Healy came in with two RBI apiece, and a total of seven Oregon players had at least one hit.
With the win, Oregon moves into first place in the Pac-12 standings with Arizona (22-9, 8-3 Pac-12) and the Bruins trailing in second and third respectively. The final game of this weekend’s series in Los Angeles takes place today at noon.
