The Great Hiatum@@https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Great-Hiatum/166657620054673@@ is a self-described “five-piece sock-rocking electronic dance rock detail” made up of students in Eugene.@@https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Great-Hiatum/166657620054673@@ Melissa Randel, Keith Randel, James Aronoff, Max Miller and Travis Lein@@https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Great-Hiatum/166657620054673?sk=info@@ are the current members of the band, which was originally founded in 2010. Coming from varying places including Arizona, California and Washington, the group plays around with different sounds and styles, drawing inspiration from each member’s unique interests.
According to its website, the band’s influences include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Janis Joplin, The Faint, Florence and the Machine, R.E.M. and They Might Be Giants, among many others. The group has played sets at a wide range of locations, including the University’s EMU amphitheater and the Century Center in Bend@@http://www.tsweekly.com/venueevents/18815-century-center.html@@. The band also frequents venues such as the Campbell Club. Some of the group’s popular songs are “Follow You Out,” “Bring Back the Day,” “Stateline” and “Scary Situation.”@@http://www.reverbnation.com/thegreathiatum@@
The Great Hiatum has played around campus enough to make a name for itself, and it continues to play sets often. The band said in a message that they are honored to be voted best student band, and the group’s official response to the win is, “To whom it may concern: We love you, too.”
