The ‘Best of Campus’ winners were determined by a student vote. The winners do not reflect the opinion of the Emerald.
University students voted the Historic McDonald Theatre “best concert venue” for 2012. There are several reasons why it’s the best concert venue, and here they are.
It has a roomy dance floor, a large seated balcony (also with room for standing) and not one but two bars inside. There is also a snack bar (open to all ages), and a coat check is available for concertgoers for most shows.
Not only is the McDonald a great place for a concert, a bunch of other activities have been held in the venue as well, including weddings, proms, fundraising events, lectures and children’s stage performances.
The McDonald Theatre is also considered to be a historic landmark of the community and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.@@http://www.nps.gov/nr/@@ The theater opened in 1925 and has served the community as both stage and screen performance spaces.@@http://www.mcdonaldtheatre.com/about.html@@
Located at 1010 Willamette St. in downtown Eugene, the theater is easy to find and to get to. There is usually parking along the street and several parking garages nearby. The McDonald has a lot of great history and soul within its walls, and it also provides a large variety of music and shows for the people of Eugene.
Currently there are several upcoming shows that look to be promising. Tommy Emmanuel will be performing in June, “We Grew Wings” (a film screening of women’s track in Eugene) will be showing in June and several more events will be happening over the course of the next few months.
The Historic McDonald Theatre is a wonderful and beautiful place for many different activities. Definitely see a show there before you graduate — it’s completely worth it.
