The Oregon baseball team began its weekend series in Nashville on a high note, breezing past Belmont 13-4 on Thursday afternoon. @@http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=500&ATCLID=205385650@@
The Ducks (4-1) scored more than once in each of the first four innings, knocking Belmont starter Matt Hamann out of the game after pounding him for ten runs on nine hits.
It was more than enough to earn Oregon reliever Billy Flamion his first career victory. Flamion pitched 4 and 1/3 innings after freshman starter Jordan Spencer was removed in the second inning, and his only hiccup came on a two-run home run in the third inning. David Wylie came in to finish off the game’s last three innings, giving up one run on four hits and striking out three.
At the plate, sophomore Ryon Healy led the way with a home run and four RBI. Freshman catcher Shaun Chase also homered and finished with three RBI, while Connor Hofman, Brett Thomas and J.J. Altobelli all had multi-hit games. @@http://www.goducks.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=500&SPID=11401&SPSID=94833@@
This was the third-straight game in which Oregon scored at least 10 runs, and the team’s fourth-straight victory in the early stages of the season. The 4-1 start is the best for Oregon in the modern era.
The Ducks return to action today at 2 p.m. as they begin a three-game weekend series against No. 17 Vanderbilt. @@http://www.goducks.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=500&SPID=11401&SPSID=94835@@
