The women’s golf team needs to play catch-up the rest of the Pacific-10 Championships. The Ducks find themselves in last place as the team shot 26-over par in the first round Monday in Tucson, Ariz.
Erin Andrews and Victoria Wenslow are tied for 24th, as they led the Ducks, each shooting 4-over-par 76.
Andrews, starting at hole 10, shot a double bogey on 11, but followed that hole with a birdie on 12. After stroking a birdie on 18, Andrews played a steady final nine, parring seven of the nine holes.
Wenslow started out shooting 1-over par on the back nine. The sophomore may have finished in a tie for ninth, but a triple bogey on 8 dropped her on the leaderboard.
Oregon freshman Cathryn Bristow and senior Michelle Timpani both shot 9-over par to finish in a tie with Washington State’s Haley Parsons at 43rd.
Bristow, who has led the Ducks in strokes per round this season, shot seven of nine bogeys on the back nine. The freshman shot a birdie on the second hole of the front nine, but followed that with three bogeys.
Therese Wenslow finished tied for 48th. The junior, who filled in for an injured Kim McCready, was unable to shoot a birdie on the day.
Arizona State leads the tournament at 1-under par. Washington State’s Ana Kostina and Arizona State’s Azahara Munoz lead the field at 2-under par.
Oregon men struggle in tourney’s second round
The men’s golf team struggled in the second round after shooting 18-over par in the first round. Sophomore Derek Sipe and junior Matt Ma were tied at 8-over par 15 holes into the second round.
Sipe shot a 1-over par in the first round to lead the Ducks, but followed it with a 7-over par through the first 15 holes of the second round.
Ma shot 5-over par in the first round and nailed a birdie on 11 to go 3-over par three holes from finishing the second round.
Gregg LaVoie and Chris Dukeminier each shot 9-over par through the 12th hole of the second round.
The Ducks as a team are last at 40-over par.
UCLA is in first place after finishing 13-under par through two rounds. UCLA’s Daniel Im leads the field at 7-under par through two rounds.
