The University of Oregon has such strange priorities. Those of us who work in Condon Hall have been asking for wheelchair access to our building (basically, an outside door that would open at the push of a button) for years, and are always told there’s not enough money in the budget to do this.
However, somehow the money will be found to erect a giant, permanent obelisk in one of the few remaining open spaces on campus – the Condon/Chapman Quadrangle. A plywood model is up now, and it surely takes away from the sense of spaciousness we formerly enjoyed.
I’m sorry, but (educational opportunities aside) I really do not like the obelisk. I also hope some other place can be found to put the permanent one – if we have to have it.

University money would be better spent on wheelchair access than the obelisk
