Oregon’s Tajuan Porter has seen plenty of playing time as the U.S. U-19 World Championships team has gone 3-0 in group play through July 14. Averaging 6.7 points per game in 18 minutes per game, Porter has helped the team to victories over Mali, China, and a close 82-78 victory over host Serbia on Saturday.
After a grueling day of travel that took the U-19 squad from Dallas to Belgrade, Serbia via Dulles International Airport and Munich, Germany, the U.S. men crushed Mali 118-56 in their opening game. Porter scored 14 in that game.
The U.S. U-19 men continued with a 103-77 victory over China and an 82-78 victory over Serbia that was close until a floater from Arkansas’ Patrick Beverley sealed the win with 10.1 seconds left. The wins have the U.S. at the top of their group with six points, advancing to face Lithuania today in the second round of group play.
