The new Student Senate decided not to pay itself with money left over from a payroll account Thursday.
A vote to transfer funds from one account into another failed to pass when Summer Senate President Kate Jones, along with newly appointed Sens. Billy Hatch and Patrick Boye chose to abstain from the vote.
Sen. Neil Brown asked them why they abstained.
“Do you guys not want to get paid?” he said.
The money, totaling $627, will go unspent and will roll over into Senate’s surplus account.
“I don’t see a problem with us getting a summer stipend,” Sen. Lee Warnecke said.
Senate also transferred money from its outreach line item into copying and duplication because it had overspent this line item and needs $33 to cover the deficit.
Senate voted to transfer funds for the Pre-dental Club and Jones handed out some Web sites to begin the discussion of ethics reform in the Senate.
