The Oregon women’s golf team found itself only seven strokes out of first place as it concluded its first day at the Ping ASU Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Junior Felicia Eastick and sophomore Kendra Little led the No. 28 Ducks as they finished in a tie for 20th at 2-over 74. Senior Cathryn Bristow followed shortly behind at 5-over 75, which put her in a tie for 31st. Oregon finished the day in eighth place with a team score of 300.
The following day freshman Ashley Edwards had a strong performance, shooting the Ducks’ lowest score in the second round with a 79. Eastick and Little continued to hold down the lead for Oregon in the overall standings as they tied for 47th.
However, the Ducks dropped to 15th in the team standings, as No. 2 Arizona State moved into first place. Following closely behind the Sun Devils were several top-10 teams with No. 9 Purdue in second and No. 5 Oklahoma State in third, while No. 3 USC and No. 2 UCLA battled for fourth and fifth place overall.
The final day on the course did not go as well for the Ducks as they dropped into last place and were unable to recover. Little had the Ducks’ strongest performance of the day, finishing 3-over 75. Oregon concluded the tournament with a team score of 941.
The Ducks will be back in action on April 24-26 for the Pacific-10 Conference Championships at the Stanford Golf Course.
