For the first time this season, the Pacific-10 Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week went to more than one person.
Matthew Centrowitz, Andrew Wheating, Shadrack Biwott and Galen Rupp shared the honor after breaking the collegiate record in the men’s 4xMile relay at the Oregon Twilight on Saturday. The Ducks completed the feat in 16:03.24, just ahead of Michigan’s 2005 mark of 16:04.54.
Oregon’s Ashton Eaton and Brianne Theisen were also named the men’s field and women’s track athletes of the week for their victories in the Pac-10 Championship decathlon and heptathlon. Eaton scored 8,091 points and won the first six events of the competition, and Theisen set a new personal best with 5,986 points.
This is the second time this season Oregon has had three Pac-10 athletes of the week for track and field. Cyrus Hostetler (men’s field), Amber Purvis (women’s track) and Jamesha Youngblood (women’s field) all earned their accolades for the week of Feb. 8.
Cal sophomore pole vaulter Alison Stokke was the women’s field athlete of the week.
