On Saturday, Oregon beat Stanford for its first win in 15 tries. Maybe it wasn’t that big of a win, and yet Oregon students showed their support by rushing the court. It was an emotional gesture of support by the fans who could go a long way to help the team for the rest of this season and throughout next season – the last at Mac Court.
When we beat the Beavers next weekend, I ask the students and the fans to again rush the court. In fact, please rush the court for every Pac-10 win this season. Not only will it help the team, but it is the perfect way to celebrate 83 years of basketball at the historic arena.
As a former Mac Court camper of the ’70s, I know the emotional bonds between the fans, the players and the building. Mac Court united me with three lifelong friends, connected me with many players and their parents, and allowed me a front-row experience to college basketball.
Without Oregon fans, Mac Court is just a shell of a old building. But when you combine the two, it becomes a unique and special environment that you can’t understand without experiencing it.
Thanks, Pit Crew, for your support this year!
