Roll up your sleeves. The eighth annual Civil War Blood Drive starts today at the Casanova Center and Knight Law Center.
The blood drive, organized by the Lane Memorial Blood Bank, pits the Ducks against the Oregon State University Beavers in a friendly rivalry to encourage students, faculty and staff to give blood each year.
In 2008, OSU edged past the University, winning the competition 4,196 to 3,339 donors.
Corvallis has an edge, said Chelsie Wong at the Lane Memorial Blood Bank, because their drive is through the American Red Cross — a statewide organization — and the University’s is through the Blood Bank, which only serves Lane County. But Wong still hopes the University can turn the score around next year.
The formal goal is to entice 1,000 people to give blood, but Wong says the real goal “is to beat the Beavers.”
The blood drive kickoff is at the Len Casanova Athletic Center near Autzen Stadium from 9 a.m. to noon today. The Lane Memorial Blood Bank will be at the Knight Law Center today between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. and will be at the EMU from Nov. 17 through Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
