The Oregon women’s soccer team (8-7-1, 0-5-0 Pacific-10 Conference) will host its final home series of the 2009 season this weekend as it takes on the Washington Huskies tonight and the No. 21 Washington State Cougars on Sunday.
The Ducks have dropped their last five consecutive matches and have been outscored 15-3 in those contests, while the Huskies have gone 2-1-2 since beginning conference play.
Washington has shown its depth offensively with seniors Veronica Perez and Nikki Murray and junior McKenna Waitley combining for 13 of the teams 24 goals on the year.
Sophomore Kari Davidson has started all 16 games between the pipes for the Huskies, recording 42 saves and allowing 14 goals in her 1,470 minutes of play.
Sunday’s matchup with No. 21 WSU will likely be a much tougher matchup for the Ducks defensively, as they’ll have to contain the Pac-10’s fourth-ranked scorer in senior forward
Kiersten Dallstream.
Dallstream has found the back of the net 13 times this season with five assists and has led the Cougars to 11 wins through 16 games, which included key victories over No. 18 BYU, No. 23 California, and No. 24 Arizona State.
Oregon, on the other hand, hopes to bounce back from a poor first half of conference play and win-out to still have a shot at making the tournament. And with a favorable schedule over the final four games, the Ducks’ ultimate goal of reaching the postseason could become a reality.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. tonight at Pape Field, and Sunday’s contest will begin at 1 p.m. with a short pre-game ceremony to recognize the team’s five seniors — Teresa Bowns, Adriana Montes, Dani Oster, Jessie Proulx and Danielle Sweeney — in what will be the final home match of their collegiate careers.
