As the Pacific-10 Conference tournament nears its end, neither the men nor the women have any players left on the board. On the men’s side, senior Alexander Cornelissen won his first two matches en route to the championship draw quarterfinals, but he fell to No. 1-seeded Robert Farah of USC by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Cornelissen was the only Oregon player to win a match in the singles championship draw.
The Ducks had a bit more luck in the invitational draw, as four players advanced to the round of 16. After a first round bye, freshman Aaron Clissold defeated Walker Kehrer of Stanford to reach the quarterfinals. Clissold’s run ended, however, in the quarterfinals against Washington’s Alex Rosinski. Junior Duncan MacDonald-Korth, sophomore Sho Higuchi and freshman Mitch Somach each made it to the round of 16 before being eliminated.
The women, meanwhile, were swept in the opening round of the championship draw, as freshman Julia Metzger, junior Pavlina Smatova, and sophomore Trudie du Toit each lost.
In the invitational draw, junior Emmanuelle Cor advanced to the round of 16 before being eliminated, while Oregon’s other two competitors lost in the opening round.
The weekend also included doubles play, during which Oregon’s luck did not change. The men sent two teams to the championship draw, both losing in the opening round. In the invitational draw, Clissold and junior Doug Mayeda had a bye in the first round before losing in the quarterfinals. Neither of the other two teams made it past the opening round.
The women’s time in doubles play was short, and none of the pairs scored an opening round victory.
