Oregon junior Kevin Godfrey set an overall personal best of 6,808 points to win the Oregon Decathlon on Friday and Saturday at Hayward Field.
Godfrey, a Roseburg native and Lane Community College transfer, set a personal best with a 15-foot, 3-inch clearance in the pole vault while winning the decathlon’s last three events — pole vault, javelin, and the 1,500-meter run. Second place went to Oregon junior and Newport native Bruce Burbank, who scored 6,656 points in the competition thanks to seven personal records.
Senior Justin Frick, a transfer from Princeton, withdrew from the competition after seven events, while former Duck Marshall Ackley, competing unattached, withdrew after four events.
David Formolo of Lane Community College finished in third place, with 5,870 points.
